Legends from Thyilos, big beasties update

Over the time since the late update. So far the project has been about finding time to convert the dialogue and events into a proper script, and learning a little more and more about how the RMMV engine operates compared to the RMXP (turns out there’s a lot to get used to).

So far, it’s going well. Most the main dialogue from the first area in Myradin has been added in, and I’ve got an idea of what I want to do in regards to what has voice dialogue and what doesn’t. Though, I’m not a hundred percent on how to set it up without having hundreds of voice dialogues crammed into a folder just yet.

The database is now the bigger focus. The sooner that’s up, the sooner I can focus on mapping and putting back in events and dialogue. I’ll be keeping any mapping I do do extremely simplistic until then for testing purposes only.

At the moment, between myself and my lead lore-fact and story checker, I’m diving into expanding the bestiary. Even in the older project, I hadn’t slipped in much more than a few enemies and mentioned a couple of outside species that you wouldn’t encounter even in the demo.
So we’re going to be doing some of that work this Wednesday. We’ve got the concept of how we’re be splitting the creatures down into groups down on paper. We just need to expand it.

Here’s an idea of how they work so far.

First they’re split into whether they existed during the time the Immortals existed, or after they vanished.

Pre-History creatures: Which are all non-sentient creatures common to Thyilos, which will be further divided later by the climate and region they came from. Examples are; Giant Rats, Spiders, Serpents, Chitens (bugs), Wyverns and Drakes.

Post-Immortal Age: Anything that would genetically be found to have arrived from another dimensional realm after the Immortals vanished from Thyilos. This will included Sentient beings as well as non-sentient.

Sentient: Including all the main races that populate Thyilos. Also includes the lesser nomadic races, such as Lizardmen, Wargen, Centaurs, Nymphs and Harpies.
Although you may unlikely encounter them, there’s also Vampires.
We’re also debating Wraith Lords; beings bought forth from the Inter Realm to serve a summoner, whilst feeding off their hosts very life force.

Non-Sentient: Which is yet to be expanded. Drakes may get moved here instead.

Summoned: Which thus far we have Golems, Slimes and Undead. We’re debating whether Ent’s should fall into this category, or fall into Sentient. It depends how the story develops.

Now, there’s a lot of work to do here. And I won’t to know what other people outside the project may think. So, if you’ve got an interesting idea for a beastie, then jump onboard the Lucid Flame facebook page, and post an idea in the comments where this blog post will go.
The best ideas will hopefully find their way into the lore of the world and you’ll get an honourable mention in the Bestiary as the discoverer of that creature. The Bestiary will be made and released with the game.

That’s all for now. New update within the month!

Revamp and rekindle

HELLO!, from the long gone quiet abyss. You probably thought we’d gone dead, but I assure you, we have not.

I won’t bother starting this by apologising by a lack of updates and activity in general, because you know it’ll be the same old excuses.

Instead, I’ll jump right into this!

Legends from Thyilos – Heroes of the Four Kingdoms is taking a massive step backwards, in order to take leaps forwards.
It’s been a long debated decision on whether to halt production on the project with the old RPG Maker XP engine, and start using the newer RPG Maker MV edition. But the only reason for a long time was that it had the inbuilt capacity to export the game on both Windows, Mac, and IOS/Android devices. This wasn’t really a good enough reason, but after a four month hiatus, and some reflection, i’ve started again. I’m hoping, with forced effort and determination, that the project will be up to scratch database and asset wise within five months.

During this, I’ll fix up the old XP version and release a Demo for people to play and get the gist of the story. PLUS, the XP Demo will have details on how to access a bonus hidden chamber on the MV edition, where players can get bonus material. This XP Demo version, will hopefully have a media release on the Studio Wisp Youtube page within a few months. So keep an eye out.

Unfortunately, I can’t give any updates to other Lucid Flame associated projects, only my own. But rest assured, we aren’t all dead yet.

Till next time!

The lingering lights

Time consumes us all as we sway through the endless ebb and flow of the river. But throughout, we grab hold of the reeds in the river, and with each strand snatched we take the memories of the river and use them to build our own.

Each member of Lucid Flame has come far these past 2 years. Some of us have moved on to new things, taking up careers and new educational pathways. Some of us have encountered strong walls, complicated to get beyond.
But we have not forgotten.

Strange metaphors aside, I’d like to remind everyone that our projects are not dead. In these creations, the characters and the story, we hold dear memories. A piece of our past we wont let go of, lest it drift away forever.
I can no vouch entirely, as I am fool enough to not maintain contact with my friends here. But, I wont stop making Legions from Thyilos, and I know through it the friendships I hold dear will live on.

In the coming months, expect to see more posts returning to this site and hopefully Studio Wisp in turn. I will continue to develop LfT on the sidelines of work and one day meet my destiny of publishing a full game.

Until that day comes. Thanks to all those who support us. No matter wherever you are.

Our spark burns bright, and shall ignite once more.

Thief of Time is now public!

Last week I mentioned that there’d be a new announcement on the project we’ve worked so hard to hide from you all. But the time has come to cease the teasing and publicly announce one of our largest additions to the Lucid Flame repertoire.

Thief of Time is the 3rd in the ‘of Time’ series; staring a whole new cast with a whole new world to explore and discover. Unlike the previous games in the series, which have one one lead director, with the other members pitching in with key development changes where applicable, ToT is a four team directive, with each of us pulling weight to make it and shape its narrative.

To sum it up briefly; you’ll be put in the place of Reya, a young thief apart of a rather influential Thieves Guild. As her, you’ll explore the world and take on missions and objectives as you uncover new allies and secrets that will eventually lead to something a whole lot larger!

There’ll be a lot of new features as well that you can take advantage of, though the primary one available at this time is the ability to prepare different food and potions. Initially, you’ll have to pay to use such required facilities, but eventually, you can invest your hard earned money to upgrade the Thieves Guild so you can obtain unique bonuses that may prove more valuable to you than saving up for better equipment.

Technically, ToT would be the 3rd game you play in the series, with KoT coming first, followed by SoT. Though you could play SoT and KoT in any order, we’re hoping that ToT would be the 3rd in the line with its story linking in last to the grand scheme of things.
Updates on the series shall remain exclusive to Lucid Flame Dev for the time being, until it’s development has progressed enough for it to be moved to public forums where you’ll be able to keep track of loose updates and changes that may not be mentioned in a post here.
We hope you’ll enjoy following Thief of Time throughout its development, and if you’ve got any Q&A regarding it, or the series, please feel free to post up a comment here on this post, and a member will answer as best as possible, without revealing anything too top secret, of course 😉

Till the next time, stay tuned. 🙂

This is a resurrection post!

As any of our followers would have noticed, LF seemed to vanish off the face of the planet around four months ago, and we’d owe you a good reason for that.

To begin with, myself, Shea, lost my laptop completely after it gave up the ghost. You may remember that in the, coincidentally, last pot here. it was a troublesom event, and for 3 months was out of action. Then after finally saving up and being able to get a new computer, it’s was another month again to get back into a work flow; as a result the will to post an update on here had faded. But, that ends now, and I’ll at least be trying to keep everyone up to date on all things LF related! For we certain are not gone yet, I promise you that.

So before I get started, my sincerest of appologise on behalf of all of Lucid Flame for the extreme lack of any updates.

Onto updates!!

First up on the running list, is Legends from Thyilos, which since I came back, I released a quick patch for the current (and still last) Beta Release for the demo. The patch fixes a couple missed things that could’ve caused trouble, particular a malfunctioning Antidote which wasn’t curing Poison at all. It did cure a couple other ailments though, but none of them are ones you could get yet.
You can download that fixed Beta here if you still feel game for it. The Full Demo release will be hopefully due sometime December. I can’t assure a specific date as of yet since things have slowed down, and the production team is becoming busier with real-time work.
However, in light of the no date, I’m pleased to announce we have a musician again, who so far has already proven quality of work. The Demo will have custom tracks composed by our new team member.

Next up, is Keepers of Time, which has mostly seen artwork development as of late. You can view a couple bits of promotional art over on the Artwork section of the site, but if you want to see even more of her work, consider visiting her Deviant Art where she puts up her work more regularly.
As far as the games development goes, it’s ‘in and out’, so to speak. The ‘of Time’ dev members had been putting more focus into another upcoming game that’ll tie into the series, but I”ll discuss more of that later. So as such for the current work flow, KoT will not have a pre-ordained Demo date, nor will it have any mention of potential Open Beta Demo’s, but if circumstances change, we will notify you and encourage. As of a post earlier last month on a forum, she’s hoped to get a demo out once Prehistoria is finished.

Seed’s of Time, technically the second in the ‘of Time’ series, has its progress on hold, the main reason being the lead developer, Rosa, is focused more thouroughly on the mysertious, third game in the series; which as I mentioned is the reason for KoT to be going by a little slower. Suffice to say now, all work on SoT has not stopped. It’s still an integral part in the series, so talk about it does come in and out when we’re discussing narrative.

Now, in closing to this post, I’d like to bring up that “other” game I’ve already mentioned a few times so far which has captivated both the lovely Rose and Rosa into thinking more about it. But because I’m a tease, I wont actually discuss it yet.
Instead, I’m going to talk with the others on it, then in a later post, possibly tomorrow, we will set up an official page for it here on LF.
Stay tuned for the announcement of the mysterious “ToT”.

One last notice before I go. The Live Streaming page, which was meant to have more activity on it, was neglected. mainly because I was the only one who wanted to make use of it at the time. The page is remaining up for now in case something changes. in the mean time, you can still access it, and view older videos that were recorded.

Until next time, 😉

Legends of Thyilos (formally Tales of Thyilos) Progress update

I’ve got good news and bad news about Legend of Thyilos.

The good news is its got new features being added in while I fix some things up, but nothing I’ve added has changed anything within the scripts, so I’ll be able to do one more Patch Release for Beta Demo Vr6 before I move on to adding things on that would prevent the transfer of saves.

One of the features is a little game changing experiment. You can no buy some food from markets. Its essentially really cheap and doesn’t do very much at all. But if you sacrifice a turn during combat to snack down on say, a piece of cheese, you’ll feel nourished and find a little bit of your health is regenerating after each turn in your battle phase! Some foods will also provide more MP regen! The assortment of foods available are more just a gimmick though; so you can buy foods that might suit your taste. I’ll work on adding in different bonuses though that can be gained from food.

However, and here comes the bad news.
I can’t work on that food… Or eventing… or combat balancing.

My laptop, the only workstation I have available to work on Legends of Thyilos has finally decided it doesn’t want to barely function anymore, and now blue screens during start up.

All game development on Tales of Thyilos is henceforth on hold until I can take my machine to get the data extracted from the hard-drives, and a new computer is obtained; which is easier said than done when I have no money for a new computer, and barely enough for getting the data off my laptop. I’ve got a car registration and bills to help with, so those are priority over the games development, but I’m hoping it’ll be more affordable to get data than I think it is. Might even get lucky.

If the quote is affordable, I might get the laptop to a point where it at least functions enough to work on, and i that’s the case, the game can continue. If that’s not the case though, then there’s just nothing that can be done about it until I get a new computer. I may be on one right now to do this post, but this Pc is not capable of operating the RMXP Engine.

So my sincerest apologise to those of you who have been following LfT’s progress, and thank you for your patience during the games early Beta development.

I will try to resume normal production as soon as possible!

Legends from Thyilos Beta V6 (edit now 6.2b)

Legends from Thyilos (recently known as Tales of Thyilos) has officially put out the 6th, and final beta version. From here, the game itself will not receive any ‘major’ updates for a few months while the full demo is being established with all the assets it will require.
But fear not for the current beta may yet get a patch or two depending on what bugs are fixed. But I’ll only update if there’s enough fixes to make it worth it; such as a bunch of balancing fixes, or event fixes, etc.

But despite it still being a beta, and it’s only testing for this version so far being me tiredly working my way through it for the past week, fuelled naught but by high levels of caffeine, the game is quite playable.

The current features now added include:
-You can not visit Chipadin’s Inn, though it has yet to undergo the custom tailored construction I want for it.
-Additionally to the Inn, take Eric with you and talk to his mother to gain access to his parents house.
-The Hidden Cave which previously had nothing to it, has been finished, and I hope the challenges prove worthy. You may even learn something new that the Thyilosian Lore book would never be able to tell you at risk of breaking too many barriers.
-The last scene, which I’d discovered thanks to a helpful play tester cold not be reached due to an error, is now more functional and plays out like a scene. Additionally, all scenes have been reconfigured, so when an important scene plays out, it’ll fade out, then back in.
-Lastly, there is a new character in the game. See if you can find them.

Features that are in dev, but not implemented due to running out of time:
-Three new quests. Two will be in Lyador. The third can only be accessed if you find a certain item in a certain quest. Miss this item, and you wont be able to access the quest!
-The Recruitment Guild is still being figured out.
-The Gambling Den’s games are worked out in theory, but they will need to be put to the test.

That’s about it!
Oh, and the game did officially get it’s name change. The reason for this is that the “of Time” series has another project in discussion that would require the use of the Anagram “ToT” to make it a functional and fitting working title. To prevent confusion, this game has had a name change to something that’s just as suitable, and will make sure there’s no clashes. Coincidentally, back in early development of this game, it almost became “Legends of Thyilos”. Now it’s offically going to be Legends from Thyilos. Not sure if “what goes around, comes around” fits this situation, but its the only analogy my sleepy brain can make.

Now, I shall end my rambles with the link to the download. Hope those of you who give it a go can enjoy what it has to offer. As always, if you find trouble, please don’t hesitate to contact me at smeadth.studiowisp@gmail.com
< Download Beta Release Vr0.6.2b >

-edit 3/4/12 – fixed up some bugs. If you downloaded V6, you should be able to copy our saves over into 6.1 and still use them-

Beta V6 for Tales of Thyilos

Just a quick post to let people know that I’ve set a strict deadline has been put up for the final Beta Version to be done by the end of this weekend, and no later. Thanks to some very helpful people, the previous Beta Versions have had plenty of fixups, and the final Beta Release will be a fully functional comparison to what the Fully Completed Demo will be.

Of course, the Full Demo will have a schedule, and my aims are for mid June. This’ll be enough time to get in more custom elements and harness peoples’ opinions to refine details and fix issues.

Also, I’d like to let people know that the game “may” have a slight name change.

There’s a project I’ve mentioned before, and even posted some “random art” relating this it, and this project is close to becoming opening discussed here for people to read. What I will say to get you going, is that followers of Seeds of Time and Keepers of Time, will start seeing information on the third tie-in with the series; and the title that is so far the only one that we can make “fit”, happens to make the Anagram of “ToT”, hence, the possibility of a slight title change to Tales of Thyilos.
Of course, a rose by any of name still smells the same, so a slight title change wont affect the game itself. In fact, if it is changed, it’d probably be “Legends from Thyilos”, which considering the ever-expanding history and lore about the world of Thyilos, I think that title works very appropriately. You can find out tomorrow night when the Beta V6 goes up whether or not there is a title change, but relevant links will still remain as “ToT” for a short time to prevent confusion.

Now for other Lucid Flame news, the Livestream feature that was added last month may go back to work. As for myself, I am unable to do Livestreaming at home due to house renovations and network issues, but I might be able to do some Livestreaming when away at other locations. I’ve also been occasionally bringing up Livestreaming to Shadow, and if I can get her passed shyness, she may Livestream some of her artwork! So if you want to see her work flow on the go, help me out by sending her messages and comments about how you’d love to see her work in real time. 😉

That’s all the news for today, and before I go, an apology for the lack of updates as of late. So to those still bearing with us, a big thank you for you.

Enjoy the weekend, everyone.

One last ToT Beta

The last few weeks for Tales of Thyilos has involved re-creating the database from scratch so there’s no more defaults, configuring a new battle system, and locating bugs and issues found by those who reported them in the previous Beta release.

But now as the new setup comes to a close, I’ll be able to issue one final Beta for the game, which on top of using the Tankentai Battle system; will also have all the new abilities added and new in game menu to replace the one that was causing issues in the previous Beta releases. The current one shouldn’t cause any more trouble, and though I did like the previous menu design, I do quite like the new one and it’s given a couple new options to the menu’s design.

I’ll aim to put up the final Beta release by the end of this week, and try and schedule the Full Demo to come sometime in May (preferably).

On a different matter, previously I’d been using Livestream to do recordings, but lately my own internet has been screwing up and until its fixed it’s too going too slow to bother with a Livestream. But I may be able to coax one of the other member’s into giving it a go, so stay tuned for that. 😉

Character Sprites and Voice Acting

New Title Logo
please do not use any of the images in this post

So, some of you out there maybe wondering what I’ve been up to this whole time, I mean, I haven’t updated in like… forever. Hahaha this update is actually pretty big, I totally understand if you get bored reading it half way through XD

Graphics

First off, RG is currently the god of my idolatry. He has made a new logo for KoT :3 which you can see at the top of this post~ Ohhhh how much more I loves it ❤

As of… Yesterday, I’m making all of the icons for KoT by myself instead of using ones made by others. So far I only have a few, but I think they’re going to be a lot better^^
icons

Hahaha I do admit I need lots more practice though XD the last four are rtp recolours.

Lately, I’ve been in a really weird mood and have gotten a lot of drawing done. Most of it was not KoT related, however, I did finally get Eric’s character art done XD

Behold the prettiness!
I’ve also gotten some random art done. I think I’ll use it as new cover art @.@ I haven’t gotten to shading it yet though
RandomArt

SO, I’ve also gotten a lot of spriting done, at this point all but one of the main characters have been completed! I also resprited Lancelot, because, well, I’ve never really been a fan of his design~ I’m not quite sure about his hair though~ While I’m at it, I might as well just post all of them XD
sprites
sprites
sprites
sprite

There’s the heroes~
The Pantheon~ (missing Death, I know)
(Two of) The baddies~ (neither of these are Solitaire, nice try)
And poor Corva that doesn’t really fit in anywhere. Wait, Corva?
Well, spoilers and all that. Just know that she’s important.

Also, I’ve decided to switch from BEM to Tankentai, mostly due to customization… and bugs. I’m currently working on getting the battle sprites to work properly, but they don’t want to because they’re a different size~

Rose_battlesprite

Yeah, I really do have too much time on my hands.

Other stuff

Right now, it’s still battlesystem battlesystem battlesystem~ I have to start the enemies over now too, because of the system switch to Tankentai. Then I’ll make the skills again…. Fun.

Prehistoria is going along well too. I still don’t have any new screenies, because I’d rather not let you see the new maps I have done xD you might figure out things that should not be figured out yet~

I know I keep pushing the demo date back further and further, but this time I swear to god I mean it *^* I shall have a demo released by the end of April! It’s all easy going after Prehistoria is done, so I might actually get KoT done this year zomj.

Also… I’ve decided I’m going to have voice acting OwO I’m going to post up the official auditions sometime next month, but friends can try out for a part now if you want to I think :3 there are lots of parts to be filled, more girls than guys though I’m afraid.
Voice acting will only be in important scenes and in battle though, not throughout the whole game *that would drive me crazy*. And I’m thinking of adding an option to turn it off too, as I know a lot of people don’t like voice acting. The characters that will be first priority for voice acting are…
Rose, Eric, Lucy, Lancelot, Father Time, Death, Red, Valarie DePeeks, and Skuld. Other characters include Life, Verdandi, Wyrd, and a ton of other characters that are either spoilerific or side characters

Music

Jisun has been working really hard on the Boss Battle Theme, and now it’s done!
http://www.dreamorbitmusic.com/our-music/jisun-hughes/
It is at the bottom of the second playlist, titled “Battle for Life”

Rofl that was a lot more typing than i thought it would be @.@ OTL and it seems like a lot less is done when it’s in post form, but oh well… Hopefully now I will be posting periodical small updates, so stay tuned if you’re interested I suppose~
