This is a resurrection post!

As any of our followers would have noticed, LF seemed to vanish off the face of the planet around four months ago, and we’d owe you a good reason for that.

To begin with, myself, Shea, lost my laptop completely after it gave up the ghost. You may remember that in the, coincidentally, last pot here. it was a troublesom event, and for 3 months was out of action. Then after finally saving up and being able to get a new computer, it’s was another month again to get back into a work flow; as a result the will to post an update on here had faded. But, that ends now, and I’ll at least be trying to keep everyone up to date on all things LF related! For we certain are not gone yet, I promise you that.

So before I get started, my sincerest of appologise on behalf of all of Lucid Flame for the extreme lack of any updates.

Onto updates!!

First up on the running list, is Legends from Thyilos, which since I came back, I released a quick patch for the current (and still last) Beta Release for the demo. The patch fixes a couple missed things that could’ve caused trouble, particular a malfunctioning Antidote which wasn’t curing Poison at all. It did cure a couple other ailments though, but none of them are ones you could get yet.
You can download that fixed Beta here if you still feel game for it. The Full Demo release will be hopefully due sometime December. I can’t assure a specific date as of yet since things have slowed down, and the production team is becoming busier with real-time work.
However, in light of the no date, I’m pleased to announce we have a musician again, who so far has already proven quality of work. The Demo will have custom tracks composed by our new team member.

Next up, is Keepers of Time, which has mostly seen artwork development as of late. You can view a couple bits of promotional art over on the Artwork section of the site, but if you want to see even more of her work, consider visiting her Deviant Art where she puts up her work more regularly.
As far as the games development goes, it’s ‘in and out’, so to speak. The ‘of Time’ dev members had been putting more focus into another upcoming game that’ll tie into the series, but I”ll discuss more of that later. So as such for the current work flow, KoT will not have a pre-ordained Demo date, nor will it have any mention of potential Open Beta Demo’s, but if circumstances change, we will notify you and encourage. As of a post earlier last month on a forum, she’s hoped to get a demo out once Prehistoria is finished.

Seed’s of Time, technically the second in the ‘of Time’ series, has its progress on hold, the main reason being the lead developer, Rosa, is focused more thouroughly on the mysertious, third game in the series; which as I mentioned is the reason for KoT to be going by a little slower. Suffice to say now, all work on SoT has not stopped. It’s still an integral part in the series, so talk about it does come in and out when we’re discussing narrative.

Now, in closing to this post, I’d like to bring up that “other” game I’ve already mentioned a few times so far which has captivated both the lovely Rose and Rosa into thinking more about it. But because I’m a tease, I wont actually discuss it yet.
Instead, I’m going to talk with the others on it, then in a later post, possibly tomorrow, we will set up an official page for it here on LF.
Stay tuned for the announcement of the mysterious “ToT”.

One last notice before I go. The Live Streaming page, which was meant to have more activity on it, was neglected. mainly because I was the only one who wanted to make use of it at the time. The page is remaining up for now in case something changes. in the mean time, you can still access it, and view older videos that were recorded.

Until next time, 😉

Legends of Thyilos (formally Tales of Thyilos) Progress update

I’ve got good news and bad news about Legend of Thyilos.

The good news is its got new features being added in while I fix some things up, but nothing I’ve added has changed anything within the scripts, so I’ll be able to do one more Patch Release for Beta Demo Vr6 before I move on to adding things on that would prevent the transfer of saves.

One of the features is a little game changing experiment. You can no buy some food from markets. Its essentially really cheap and doesn’t do very much at all. But if you sacrifice a turn during combat to snack down on say, a piece of cheese, you’ll feel nourished and find a little bit of your health is regenerating after each turn in your battle phase! Some foods will also provide more MP regen! The assortment of foods available are more just a gimmick though; so you can buy foods that might suit your taste. I’ll work on adding in different bonuses though that can be gained from food.

However, and here comes the bad news.
I can’t work on that food… Or eventing… or combat balancing.

My laptop, the only workstation I have available to work on Legends of Thyilos has finally decided it doesn’t want to barely function anymore, and now blue screens during start up.

All game development on Tales of Thyilos is henceforth on hold until I can take my machine to get the data extracted from the hard-drives, and a new computer is obtained; which is easier said than done when I have no money for a new computer, and barely enough for getting the data off my laptop. I’ve got a car registration and bills to help with, so those are priority over the games development, but I’m hoping it’ll be more affordable to get data than I think it is. Might even get lucky.

If the quote is affordable, I might get the laptop to a point where it at least functions enough to work on, and i that’s the case, the game can continue. If that’s not the case though, then there’s just nothing that can be done about it until I get a new computer. I may be on one right now to do this post, but this Pc is not capable of operating the RMXP Engine.

So my sincerest apologise to those of you who have been following LfT’s progress, and thank you for your patience during the games early Beta development.

I will try to resume normal production as soon as possible!

Legends from Thyilos Beta V6 (edit now 6.2b)

Legends from Thyilos (recently known as Tales of Thyilos) has officially put out the 6th, and final beta version. From here, the game itself will not receive any ‘major’ updates for a few months while the full demo is being established with all the assets it will require.
But fear not for the current beta may yet get a patch or two depending on what bugs are fixed. But I’ll only update if there’s enough fixes to make it worth it; such as a bunch of balancing fixes, or event fixes, etc.

But despite it still being a beta, and it’s only testing for this version so far being me tiredly working my way through it for the past week, fuelled naught but by high levels of caffeine, the game is quite playable.

The current features now added include:
-You can not visit Chipadin’s Inn, though it has yet to undergo the custom tailored construction I want for it.
-Additionally to the Inn, take Eric with you and talk to his mother to gain access to his parents house.
-The Hidden Cave which previously had nothing to it, has been finished, and I hope the challenges prove worthy. You may even learn something new that the Thyilosian Lore book would never be able to tell you at risk of breaking too many barriers.
-The last scene, which I’d discovered thanks to a helpful play tester cold not be reached due to an error, is now more functional and plays out like a scene. Additionally, all scenes have been reconfigured, so when an important scene plays out, it’ll fade out, then back in.
-Lastly, there is a new character in the game. See if you can find them.

Features that are in dev, but not implemented due to running out of time:
-Three new quests. Two will be in Lyador. The third can only be accessed if you find a certain item in a certain quest. Miss this item, and you wont be able to access the quest!
-The Recruitment Guild is still being figured out.
-The Gambling Den’s games are worked out in theory, but they will need to be put to the test.

That’s about it!
Oh, and the game did officially get it’s name change. The reason for this is that the “of Time” series has another project in discussion that would require the use of the Anagram “ToT” to make it a functional and fitting working title. To prevent confusion, this game has had a name change to something that’s just as suitable, and will make sure there’s no clashes. Coincidentally, back in early development of this game, it almost became “Legends of Thyilos”. Now it’s offically going to be Legends from Thyilos. Not sure if “what goes around, comes around” fits this situation, but its the only analogy my sleepy brain can make.

Now, I shall end my rambles with the link to the download. Hope those of you who give it a go can enjoy what it has to offer. As always, if you find trouble, please don’t hesitate to contact me at smeadth.studiowisp@gmail.com
< Download Beta Release Vr0.6.2b >

-edit 3/4/12 – fixed up some bugs. If you downloaded V6, you should be able to copy our saves over into 6.1 and still use them-

Beta V6 for Tales of Thyilos

Just a quick post to let people know that I’ve set a strict deadline has been put up for the final Beta Version to be done by the end of this weekend, and no later. Thanks to some very helpful people, the previous Beta Versions have had plenty of fixups, and the final Beta Release will be a fully functional comparison to what the Fully Completed Demo will be.

Of course, the Full Demo will have a schedule, and my aims are for mid June. This’ll be enough time to get in more custom elements and harness peoples’ opinions to refine details and fix issues.

Also, I’d like to let people know that the game “may” have a slight name change.

There’s a project I’ve mentioned before, and even posted some “random art” relating this it, and this project is close to becoming opening discussed here for people to read. What I will say to get you going, is that followers of Seeds of Time and Keepers of Time, will start seeing information on the third tie-in with the series; and the title that is so far the only one that we can make “fit”, happens to make the Anagram of “ToT”, hence, the possibility of a slight title change to Tales of Thyilos.
Of course, a rose by any of name still smells the same, so a slight title change wont affect the game itself. In fact, if it is changed, it’d probably be “Legends from Thyilos”, which considering the ever-expanding history and lore about the world of Thyilos, I think that title works very appropriately. You can find out tomorrow night when the Beta V6 goes up whether or not there is a title change, but relevant links will still remain as “ToT” for a short time to prevent confusion.

Now for other Lucid Flame news, the Livestream feature that was added last month may go back to work. As for myself, I am unable to do Livestreaming at home due to house renovations and network issues, but I might be able to do some Livestreaming when away at other locations. I’ve also been occasionally bringing up Livestreaming to Shadow, and if I can get her passed shyness, she may Livestream some of her artwork! So if you want to see her work flow on the go, help me out by sending her messages and comments about how you’d love to see her work in real time. 😉

That’s all the news for today, and before I go, an apology for the lack of updates as of late. So to those still bearing with us, a big thank you for you.

Enjoy the weekend, everyone.

One last ToT Beta

The last few weeks for Tales of Thyilos has involved re-creating the database from scratch so there’s no more defaults, configuring a new battle system, and locating bugs and issues found by those who reported them in the previous Beta release.

But now as the new setup comes to a close, I’ll be able to issue one final Beta for the game, which on top of using the Tankentai Battle system; will also have all the new abilities added and new in game menu to replace the one that was causing issues in the previous Beta releases. The current one shouldn’t cause any more trouble, and though I did like the previous menu design, I do quite like the new one and it’s given a couple new options to the menu’s design.

I’ll aim to put up the final Beta release by the end of this week, and try and schedule the Full Demo to come sometime in May (preferably).

On a different matter, previously I’d been using Livestream to do recordings, but lately my own internet has been screwing up and until its fixed it’s too going too slow to bother with a Livestream. But I may be able to coax one of the other member’s into giving it a go, so stay tuned for that. 😉

ToT Beta Vr0.5 and tester lookout (edit – Link is now Vr 0.5.2)

After a long day and night of debugging and narrative scripting, I’ve put out the fifth release of the Beta demo.

<Link here>

Version 5 now lets you go explore Chipadin, but as of yet, the Inn isn’t accessible as it requires a lot of detail to go into it.  Kinda like what I’m going with the Brimming Mug over in Verdok.
But the narrative behind each character in your party is also coming together, and as the game progresses you can talk to them and start to learn more.
The game guide also now comes as an actual booklet, instead of a text document.

But now, onto a very important manner. I can’t exactly blame anyone else but myself for overlooking issues, but in the Version 4 Release, there was a bug that prevented people from going further than Myradin. This was during the first Stand Alone release, and one single item that was missed out of the hundreds caused the issue. It’s fixed now though.
So I’m looking for people who really would like to get a chance to have their hands first on the Beta Release. It’s going to be a while before I can drop in Vr 0.6, and just as long after when the Full Demo is meant to be released. But to ensure no stuff-ups that only get found out 2 weeks later occur again, I need interested applicants.
Of course, as the game has no intention on turning a profit, there’s no money to go around. So Offical Testers reward comes with whatever else I can think of, and a mention in the credits.
So, if you’re interested in getting your hands a on Beta Release 6 before the public, slip me an e-mail at smeadth.studiowisp@gmail.com

Nooowww onto a different topic.
Since LF went and got it’s own domain name, we’ve started to go on and create new pages, which so far are empty. But, rest assured that there’ll be plenty of material in there soon! The pages listed in that section are the only ones officially planned for now, but I’m still looking into Livestreaming. Not sure what I’d do if I had an open channel going, but I’ll figure it out. Maybe exclusive live stream of game being developed right before the audiences eyes? (I think I can do that under such pressure. Probably be a great motivator!)

As for anything else… well, we can’t think of anything for now! But we’ll let you know. 😉

Lastly, before I leave, Rose Reveries up a week ago over on one of the forums she updates Keepers of Time on, about voice casting. Visit this link here to take a look at that recent update, or, wait patiently for me to nag her to post up here. Which ever suits you best.

Till next time!

Tales of Thyilos, Stand-alone Beta Demo Version

To compensate for the possability of the previous version not working on some Windows OS’s, the game has been compiled into a Stand-Alone. Normally, we wouldn’t have done this until the full demo came out (which will be in about 3 months, we think), but we can’t leave people out of being able to take part in playing the Beta, so this version ensures that it can run on any Windows OS (that we are aware of so far), with any issues.

We’re not sure why it didn’t work on some systems though. The only guess was that perhaps the XP RTP didn’t work on them? So now that’s not needed to rule that problem out. If the game still doesn’t run on your OS, can you please help us out by e-mailing me with the details of the problem, and details of your system. You can screenshot the problem if you wish as well.
[ email me at smeadth.studiowisp@gmail.com ]

http://www.mediafire.com/?waw465lpar1enoj

Included in this version there is:
-Stand-alone version of the game
-Alpha version of Thyilosian Lore (in which I have someone to help proof read and give me a hand with making things all fit nicely without holes)
-Installation and Game Controls guide (which is just a .txt file at the moment)

Included as new features, there is now a constant MP Regen at the end of your turn during battle; some more spelling fixes; and a new quick to do quest.

Coming in the next Beta Release there will be:
-Characters in your party will appear in Inns you visit. You can talk to them and as the game progresses more dialogue will unlock, eventually leading up to a unique quest.
-A gambling den in Verdok where you can play some high stake games to earn extra coin (so I guess this game really is rated Mature now)
-A Guild House where you can undertake either a monster hunting job, or, a specific task, like helping suppress bandits at a high risk, for good money.
-More unique skills for characters that will level up over time as they are used. (at the moment, Jaden has one of these skills. I’m give the skill more levels and adjust the use distance between the levelling, such s maybe start at 5, then 10, then 20, etc.)

Hope you all can enjoy what there is in the game, and we look forward to any feedback. 🙂

Beta Demo – fixup (edit – Demo Vr3.3)

Recently, a Beta Demo for Tales of Thyilos was released to the public so people can finally get a chance to be a part of this games development.
However, there have been some problems that have come up during that time and now.

Specifically, there was a big bug issue where the game may not go past the main menu. As soon as the problem arose, the issue has been rooted out and taken care of, and a fixed version is up and can be downloaded here.

This fixed version should run without error. It also includes an Alpha release of Thyilosian Lore, and the XP RTP that needs to be installed to make XP games like ToT run.

Also, note, the game still requires the controls to be customised to fit the setup shown in this image. We are still hoping to find a way that these controls will go across. Otherwise things will be remapped to the default, and we may need to sacrifice a function in the process due to limitations.

Another problem we’re discovering, is that XP games may not run on a Vista system (they will work on Win 7). This issue is due to Enterbrains own coding and setup, and we are going to work on a fix where the Beta Demo will be standalone, and hopefully work on Vista. The only issue is that this will make a larger Download; and originally we weren’t going to go through this trouble except for Full Demo releases, and the eventual full game. But we don’t want to leave people out, so we’re going to have to do it this way.

On a final, mostly unrelated note, my laptop, in which I use to do all my ToT related work, is pending on the arrival of a new Power Adaptor so it can function. So after today, I wont be able to amend any bugs and issues people bring up for a period of time (maybe a week). Hopefully it arrives soon!

More updates to come, hopefully soon.

Tales of Thyilos – Public beta demo

The Beta Demo for ToT has arrived. This public Beta is to allow, well, the Public to take a look at the game, outside of the testing group. Of course there’s still the possible error and odd finish that is clearly unfinished, but, the other part is there and that’s hopefully over an hours worth, which is pretty good for a Beta Demo I think. In the next month, a FULL Demo will be released, but between here and now, the public may play this and have the chance to take art in a rather critical part of the games development! Which as the head developer of the game, I think that’s pretty important since in the end this game isn’t just for me to get a story, or for our artists to get their work more open, but so that the public can enjoy a game and get somewhat immersed in a world other than their own.

So, without further rambling on, here is the Beta Demo!!
-LINK-
(note: there’s been a problem with the customised configuration not going across via the engine’s settings. Go figure! Needless to say, we need to either configure everything to the game default, or, find a script. Until then, we apologise, but you’ll have to manually configure the keys to fit this image provided. You can access the keyboard config by hitting F1.)

Unfortunately, the Thyilosian Lore Book is currently unavailable. Story is a priority, so a document that is relevant as such is VERY important. So the Beta version of the book that I promise will become available within two weeks, which will include original concept art, and a painted version of the Four Kingdoms; as well as information about the world of Thyilos you would not have otherwise discovered.

NOTICE!! To ensure a safe download ONLY download via the link I provided, or, via a link on RPG Revolution, or Studiowisp.com, or blacknekosstudios/planetindie

Seriosuly, if you see it anywhere else, report it, because it IS a fake.

4 Days till Beta

The Tales of Thyilos Beta Demo will be released within 4 days! With luck, it’ll be clean and functional, so any player can pick it up, get into it, and play through without encountering any bugs. The system may not be perfectly balanced just yet, and there may be a re-write of the system later into the project if things start to seem unbalanced and unfixable later on. But I wont hide that the team and I hopes that all those how play can provide helpful feedback!

Will post up some concept art, hopefully tomorrow.

Have a good weekend, everyone!
